isn't your everyday nine-to-five
job: it's a labour of love. Our permanent staff, based on Galiano Island, devise programs and initiatives; liaise with the Board,
our students, mentors and peer educators; establish collaborative projects
with other non-profit organizations; and make the case for funding from our
generous sponsors.
(In practice, this means waking before sunrise for the early ferry, late
nights spent poring over grant applications, and a warm glow when they get
to see the latest crop of films produced through AMES, or hear the latest
reports from our classroom learning initiatives.)
Our staff ebbs and flows depending on if and or how many programs we are
running but we have five core staff members. The current cast of characters
are:
Deblekha Guin - Administration / Project Development
Since completing her Masters in Communication at Simon Fraser University in 1998, Deblekha has been the driving force behind AMES and its development and implementation of a ground-breaking series of fully-subsidized intensive video programs delivered to a range of ‘marginalized’ youth communities. She oversaw AMES since its inception in 1997 until August 2004 (when her daughter was born).
Ken Stauffer - Bookkeeper
Ken continues to play many roles with AMES. When programs are running, he is both an editor and a bookkeeper extraordinaire.
